Information: 1 pound = 453.59 grams = 0.45359 Kilograms. 14 pounds = 1 stone.
Today is my first day back in training after the Christmas break and I have managed to only put on 4 pounds in weight (4lb), 1.8 Kilograms over the Christmas period. Not bad! But not very good when I should be losing weight to get down to 11 stone 7lb or 161lb or 73.02kg.
My weight: 12 stones 4 pounds, 172 pounds, 78.02 kilograms. - up 4lbs
Running conditions: OK. Time of run: 21:00 hours. Distance: 3.1 miles.
20 sit-ups and 10 press-ups completed before starting the run.
Steve started running and immediately I could feel that the pace was faster than I had done before. So I tried to slow things down a bit. The router was the 3.1 mile route I had done between Christmas and the New Year. Then I completed the route in 29 minutes, 23.50 seconds so I was interested in knowing what effect the Christmas break would have had.
Over Christmas I went to Church (Greenford Baptist Church) as usual with the family. With 3 young children I noticed, even more so this year, how commercial Christmas has become and how rich, in comparison to other parts of the world, we are in Great Britain and it makes me wonder about how wealth is distributed across the world in different countries and can anyone do anything to change the current situation. Or maybe for some the current situation does not need changing. The minority who have, may not want any change, but the majority who do not have, would welcome it. The New Year was spent at my in-laws in Kent.
Now back to running – After 2 miles of running I got a Stitch which seemed to be more to the middle of my stomach. I tried for the next half mile to run it off but it would not go away. In the end I gave in and walked about 100 metres. - Looks like the Christmas break, broke me. - Walking for about 100 metres gave me enough time to recover, get my breath back and for the Stitch to go away. I didn't want to stop, as Steve was pressing on ahead of me but mentally I was not able to carry on. Mind over Matter but this time Matter won. 21 years ago, Mind would have won. We were very surprise when I stopped my stop-watch to find that the time was 29 minutes 32.28 seconds, just 9 seconds slower than we had done previously. This was clear evidence to me that the pace was faster at the beginning of the run. The pace, plus the after effects of a New Year cold and cough, probably contributed to the Stitch.
My weight: 12 stones 4 pounds, 172 pounds, 78.02 kilograms. - No change.
Running conditions: OK. Time of run: 21:00.
20 sit-ups and 10 press-ups completed before starting the run as usual. Tried a different style of sit-up today. This seemed to hurt my stomach muscles more so I'll continue with these as it must be better for me!
Went running alone along the 3.1 mile route that I had been doing with my running buddy Steve today. I set out at a steady pace and was determined not to stop as I had done on my last training run. With a planned football match for Saturday I was keen to run well and increase my stamina. I completed the 3.1 miles in 28 minutes 50.47 seconds. Fantastic, a good steady pace worked. I had run this route nearly 2 minutes faster than when I had first run it.
My weight: 12 stones 4 pounds, 172 pounds, 78.02 kilograms. - No change.
Running conditions: OK. Time of run: 21:30
20 sit-ups and 10 press-ups completed before starting the run.
Having told Steve my running buddy that I had completed the route in under 29 minutes I knew we would have to run faster this time round and we did. We completed the route in 28 minutes 46.07 seconds. 4 seconds quicker. Great, a good steady pace is working and I must be getting fitter. In the final 200 metres to the finishing marking in the street, the lamp-post, Steve out ran me by about 6 seconds. I had suggested to Steve earlier that we should try to sprint or run as fast as we could the last 200 metres or so, down hill, to our finishing marker.
