I can't believe it is February already, time seems to be rushing by, soon it will be Christmas and I will be another year older and wiser . STOP! would someone please slow that clock down so I can enjoy myself and not grow old. I never seem to have enough time to complete all my wonderful, neat and perfect plans.
Ran the 6.1 mile route today and completed it in 58 minutes, 04.25 seconds. This is 1 minute, 24 seconds faster than Steve and I had done before. Each run that passes is building up my confidence towards the big day, 22nd April 2007 and I am beginning to think that I will be able to complete the London Marathon in 4 ½ hours as planned.

This Saturday Southern Armature League club, Old Lyonians 4th were away to Lloyds TSB Bank 5th, a team that were a couple of places above them in the league so a hard game was expected. I had been asked to play the whole game at Centre Back, a position I had not played in regularly since I was at High school, some 25 years ago but since I wanted to play football, I was happy to accept. The match was to be played at the Kent County Cricket ground, a journey round the South Circular again. This time I took my motorbike to avoid the traffic, and I was pleased I had, since most of the team arrived late due to the traffic. So we kick-off at the start of the game with only 9 players. The 2 missing players were the goal-keeper and a centre forward. The rest of us believed that this was going to be a very hard match and for the first 15 minutes or so it was, but we defended well and managed to score a goal. By the time our 2 missing players had arrived the score was 0 - 1 to us the away team. With what seemed like constant pressure on our defence the half-time score was 0 – 4 and our confidence was “sky high”. By the end of the game we had won six - nil (0 – 6), missed countless opportunities to score more goals.. ( a lesson to be learnt there, maybe when things are too easy we miss the opportunities that come our way!? ), and had found the second half too easy because we had lost our footballing discipline and should have won by twelve goals to nil.
It was a good “run-out” for me and helped towards my running. I am now looking forwards to playing for the 4's again.

Ran an extended 3.1 route today. The distance was about 3.5 mile. I completed the route in 30 minutes, 37.22 seconds with Steve finishing ahead of me as usual as we run to our start and finishing lamppost. It was a good even pace for me all the way round and an average pace of 8 minutes 42 seconds per mile. Not a bad average I think for my age but 21 years ago I would average 6 minutes 10 seconds per mile. 2 and ½ minutes slower.

Steve suggested we extended 6.1 route we would normally do to 7 miles so that the distance would be over half the half marathon distance in preparation for the Sussex Beacon Half Marathon – Brighton on Sunday 18th February 2007. 7 miles would be the longest distance I would have run for over 6 years and the longest that Steve would have ever done. We completed the 7 mile run in 1 hour, 9 minutes and 2 seconds, a good time I think.
