After the previous day of heavy overnight snow fall the conditions for running round the streets in my area was too dangerous. The snow had partially melted and frozen providing a very uneven and slippery surface. Therefore Steve and I decided not to risk running that night. We would have to wait for the snow to melt completely and the temperature to rise a bit.

Saturday I was down to play for, Old Lyonians 4th again and we were away to Carshalton 7th a team second in the division and 3 places above us. I was looking forward to the game but the weather ended all hopes I had of playing. The game was called off and I had to endure another planned training day without any running exercise.

After about 2 and half miles whilst Steve continued at the faster pace but I had to slow down to what has become my normal pace for the 3.5 mile route. I completed the route in 30 minutes 42.55 seconds. Just 5 seconds slower than I had managed before.

Today its Valentines day, so what am I doing running 7 miles, I ask myself. I should be at home celebrating Valentines day with Rachel (my wife) over a romantic candlelit diner after putting the 3 children to bed. But no! I am running along the street desperately trying t get as much air as possible into my lungs and trying to relax at the same time. Forgive me Rachel.

Completed the 7 mile route in 1 hour 08 minutes 50 seconds. The quickest time yet. Now I can go home to a very understanding and loving wife. Thank you Lord!

...a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping”. Proverbs 19:13
A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies”. Proverbs 31:10

Steve and I have both received our race numbers and instructions for the Sussex Beacon Half Marathon in Brighton on Sunday 18th February 2007. My number is 3490 and this will be my 12th Half Marathon, I think and Steve's first. To attend this race I will have to miss this Sundays morning church service at Greenford Baptist Church, something I don't like to do unless I have too. I have been committed to attending a local church regularly since I became a “Christian” back in 1986. With Sunday so close now, the 13.1 mile run will be a good gauge for me so I can see how my preparation for the London Marathon is actually going.
